If you walked up to Laura Wagenschutz and W. Mark Dendy, and asked them – what is the most bizarre thing you have felt God ask you to do?  – writing the christian romance novel, Single Shot, would be right up there at the top of their list.

Now, Just before the release of Double Shot,  the sequel to Single Shot, Dendy, along with Chris Bruton, who is in the process of adapting a screenplay from the book, and plans to direct, and Kristina Hagan, who has been cast as Nelia Chambers, have what many would call a “crazy” idea. But they are all in a buzz over what they feel is God’s desire to make a movie to tell the story of Single Shot filled with biblical lessons that can be applied to everyone, on the big screen.

Dendy in searching for direction and funding in this new venture that people think is “crazy,” defends the idea saying, “How do you think Noah felt when God told him he needed to build a big boat? I’m sure Noah thought, that’s crazy!  But he did it anyway, and God was glorified!”

If anything, Dendy needs a dose of patience, because even though he and Bruton have secured funding, Dendy has been chomping at the bit to begin filming.

On a Mission Entertainment, LLC, a Northern California based company plans to fund and oversee the project which will be filmed as a short initially with hopes of making a feature film.  The executive producer says, if a feature is a part of God’s plan, it will happen.  “In other words,” says Dendy, “We’ll see what God has in mind!”

Behind the scenes, author W. Mark Dendy, has been working closely with screenwriter/director Christopher Bruton to put together a crew of professionals in the movie industry which could make “Single Shot” the movie, an adaptation of the christian romance novel of the same title written by Dendy and Laura Wagenschutz, into a reality.

Bruton and Dendy were all smiles after their weekly production meeting today.  Not only have they been successful in casting three dynamic Hollywood actresses, Kristina Hagan and Summer Still for lead roles, and Sonja Fisher in a supporting role, but they have scheduled meetings later this week with Tony Singingeagle, who through phone conferences has agreed to compose an original musical score, handle all audio, and editing, and On A Mission Entertainment who they are looking to for financial backing.

At the end of the day, Dendy texted all involved to announce the big news and let everyone know that “God is definitely in control” of the project!

Laura Wagenschutz and W. Mark Dendy, coauthors of Single Shot, apparently have little time for rest these days, and little time for fun.  But their work (without the deadlines) appears to be fun-filled with the writing of Double Shot.

Wagenschutz, a full time student with a part-time job, and Dendy, a semi-retired professor, are “under the gun” to complete Double Shot, the sequel to their Christian romance novel, Single Shot, a story about Nelia Chambers, a 24 year old woman who after committing to a life of singlehood, is suddenly surrounded on all sides by unlikely suitors, matchmaking schemes, and old flames seemingly come to throw her off her chosen path.

Should she jump into the new relationship and give Lance, the barista, a shot? Should she try to make the ‘perfect’ guy, Pastor Nic, be the ‘perfect’ fit to please her overly-eager boss? Or should she give her old flame, Brian, a second chance and pray for better things the second time around? Would it be possible to accept any of her options while maintaining her commitment to God? Will her roommate Tamara, a gorgeous blonde, stifle her plans to make the godly choice, or will Tam’s flirtatious, flamboyant style create more chaos in Nel’s life.

While the two Coffee Cup Press authors continue to flesh out Double Shot, one chapter at a time, Dendy has taken on another responsibility – overseeing the production of “Single Shot” the film short which is to beginning filming November 18th.

Hollywood actress, Kristina Hagan, is cast as Nelia Chambers, Summer Still, as Tamara, Nel’s roommate, and Sonja Fisher, will play Rachel, Nel’s older sister.

Chris Bruton is the director.  Production meetings are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday this week.  Dendy says,”Right now, the only hold-up is we are waiting on Starbucks approval to shoot on location at one of their busy locations. And that, is like sitting in a plane on the tarmac waiting for the runaway to be cleared of snow and the plane de-iced.  You don’t know if you are going to get to take off or if you’re going to have to go back to the terminal, de-plane, and find an alternate means of transportation.”

Everyone on board though, believes that God is in control!

Kristina Hagan

Summer Still

Sonja Fisher

It seems as though God has His hands all over this new film project developing from, Single Shot, the christian romance novel penned by Laura Wagenschutz and W. Mark Dendy.

A tentative deal has been struck with another professional Hollywood actress, Summer Still, to play the role of “Tamara.”

Tamara is the main character, Nelia Chamber’s, tall, flamboyant, leggy, blonde roommate with “emerald green eyes and the complexion of a porcelain doll.”

Summer said via a phone call about the script for the film short scene that takes place in Starbucks that she felt the relationship between Nelia and Tamara was “clearly revealed in the scene,” and that it was “fast and fun.”

Filming of the “Single Shot” short film is set for November 18-20, 2011 and will feature Kristina Hagan as Nelia, Sonja Fisher as Rachel, Nel’s sister, and Summer Still as Tamara!
