If you walked up to Laura Wagenschutz and W. Mark Dendy, and asked them – what is the most bizarre thing you have felt God ask you to do? – writing the christian romance novel, Single Shot, would be right up there at the top of their list.
Now, Just before the release of Double Shot, the sequel to Single Shot, Dendy, along with Chris Bruton, who is in the process of adapting a screenplay from the book, and plans to direct, and Kristina Hagan, who has been cast as Nelia Chambers, have what many would call a “crazy” idea. But they are all in a buzz over what they feel is God’s desire to make a movie to tell the story of Single Shot filled with biblical lessons that can be applied to everyone, on the big screen.
Dendy in searching for direction and funding in this new venture that people think is “crazy,” defends the idea saying, “How do you think Noah felt when God told him he needed to build a big boat? I’m sure Noah thought, that’s crazy! But he did it anyway, and God was glorified!”
If anything, Dendy needs a dose of patience, because even though he and Bruton have secured funding, Dendy has been chomping at the bit to begin filming.
On a Mission Entertainment, LLC, a Northern California based company plans to fund and oversee the project which will be filmed as a short initially with hopes of making a feature film. The executive producer says, if a feature is a part of God’s plan, it will happen. “In other words,” says Dendy, “We’ll see what God has in mind!”
